Kerasia Corfu

Last day here and feeling very sad, just done our annual walk from Ag.Steph (NE) to Kerasia beach ...checking on any changes ...no all still the same, lovely sunny day but clouds appearing now. Will definitely come for longer next year. Happy holidays wherever to everyone out there ...we will return. Frilly

Hi, as the others have said the fare is similar in all five tavernas and most regulars seem to have their favourites - often down to the relationship they have formed with the staff rather than the quality of the food.  Our own personal favourite is Kochili mainly because we have never felt pressured to go inside whereas running the gauntlet past the others can be quite daunting!  The 'new' one, Ta Fagopotion, is smaller than the others and the claim is that the food is more authentic.  We ate there once and the food was, indeed, wonderful but we did leave feeling that we had finished up with a bigger bill than we had anticipated due to being encouraged to 'try' various specialities.  We always use the one at Kerasia for at least one lunch - the setting is superb and it is worth reserving a waterside table.  Whichever you use you will be dining in paradise so it doesn't really matter.  We are there in 10 days so will warm it up for you.  Enjoy!

- Haven't been in June, so others will answer that - I would guess it's ok in the evening.

- All fairly similar fare, I would say, some dishes occasionally better at one than another. People have their favourites, so I guess you may hear some different views, but try them all. We tend to use Kaparelli and Galini mainly, as we've known the guys there for so long, but we do also use Cochilli and Eucalyptus.

- The one at Kerasia is probably worth the trip, as it's a pleasant trip down the road and a quieter environment; probably similar fare again there. Haven't used Avlaki.

- Don't know Dimitris. Quite a lot of people strongly recommend the Tavernaki at Sinies, just by the turn-off from the main road - it's evenings only or they do a takeaway. We keep meaning to try it, but it's a bit of a drive from the other end of Ag Steph in the evening (well, a bit of a drive back after a good evening!)

- Don't know boat hire rates, I'm afraid.

The Villa Porto that I know is located just metres from the sea on a little side road between Kapareli Taverna and Rula's tourist/souvenire shop. Its up a few steps with a little vine covered veranda out front to watch the world go by from and enjoy a predinner G n T.

Got back yesterday after 9 glorious days, 2 in Roda and then 7 in Kassiopi. We had never stayed in Roda before and really enjoyed it, followed Elizajays recommendation and stayed at Ninos on the Beach, lovely hosts, great sea views and what a pool, then moved to a gorgeous villa set in an olive grove in Kassiopi. The weather was amazing blue skys and hot every day, no rain at all, best October weather we have experienced there. Lovely to be back, had some fabulous meals in Petrinos, Little Italy, Trilogia, Tavernaki at Sines, Charcoal Grill and Sousoro twice, had not eaten there for a few years but it looked so busy we gave it a whirl and it was so good we went twice, says it all really. We had to try baked Feta practically every night as it’s our favourite, Charcoal Grill still number one, but Sousoros with chilli a very close second, would need to try them both again several times to double check! My other half loved the Tigani in Sousoro very different and I succumbed to the Mussels in Ouzo although I hate ouzo and they were lush! But the baby squid in Barbaro in Avlaki this year was the best I have ever eaten there, so lightly fried it melted in your mouth.

Great to catch up with Mickey from One for the Road, Spiros at Jasmines and the irrepressible Atkis, Panos and Nikos at Illusions again. I prefer the beach but the villa was just so lovely we could not drag ourselves away only the once to Kerasia for lunch and an afternoon on the beach, most amusing entertainment laid on but better not tell the story on here

It was nice not to have to get dressed and go anywhere, The table tennis made for excellent amusement yet again. The place was quite quiet again of an evening once people had eaten but we had a ball. Roll on Kassiopi 2013

As asked I am reporting on my recent visit.
This is no long report because as normal very little has changed, which is exactly what most of us want I think.
So, my personal view is that if anything the food in the tavernas is better than ever. Friends of ours visited for the first time, and their opinion is that the food is about the best they have consistantly eaten over the years that they have been going to all parts of Greece. The house wines in the tavernas seem very good this year, and prices are good considering the economic situation.
The walk along the road to Kerasia is as pleasant as always, and the new big villa being built part way, is now complete except for odd bits like the outer wall to be finished.
The little supermarkets are well stocked, and the fresh veg is better than ever (tomatoes are really tasty in a Greek salad).
All the little boats are still available for hire, so all busnesses are trying to continue as normal.
The biggest change - now wait for this - no, wait - wait - dont get too excited - the road down from the main Kassiopi road, has had most of the pot holes repaired! Compared to last year, it is like driving on a carpet.
The one drawback is the wasps at the moment, but they are dozy and no great trouble, especially if you deter them while your eating on the balcony - you know,  kipper yourself with burning Greek coffee, or yellow candles etc.

I love a pool but just adore the sea, we really like spending time on Avlaki or Kerasia, both have lovely tavernas too, its just so beautiful on those beaches especially late afternoon watching the ferries and cruise ships pass by in the distance and the sea is like glass especially at Kerasia which is lovely and sheltered and when we go in October the beaches on the headland are lovely and quiet and there's Trilogia for a cold frappe or a spot of lunch could life get any better

Gorgeous today. Visited Kassiopi in sunshine unlike two years ago when it was raining. Had lunch in Ag Steph (NE) and then quick dash to Kerasia.

A beautiful day continued at Kaisers Throne and then arrived at Stevens Agios Gordis. Tonight's sunset was stunning. More please!

We have decided on Villa Kerasia Ionion in Aghios Stephanos which looks lovely and not to far from our beloved Kassiopi So very happy we can make it after all. Anybody been to this Villa? We scuba dive with the company in Acharavi just opposite the supermarket, we have done about 5 dives and never been to the same place twice. He will take kids over 13 or 14 I think and only about 8 or 10 meters so not far and hes a very patient teacher. Im not too sure if i will be diving this year as I have had bad ear trouble but Mr jules will and if my ears wont clear I can always snorkle from the boat. Good snorkeling places are around Agni, Kalami, Nissaki and just by getting lost last year we found Kerasia beach and thats good for snorkelling but my favourite has to be Kaminaki beach for clear water and good fish..julesxx

Just to add to the Kassiopi updates, we too arrived went to Avlaki for lunch then onto Nikos to do the weekly shop!

 

We were told Stefanos has not opened a bar and we only saw him on his moped not to speak to either so not sure if that is correct, Mak Mak is now open. We thought the village quite busy on the whole especially in the day, although the evenings seem to be a little quieter but compared to other years when we have been there in June there was a nice buzz about the place.

 

No sunbeds on Avlaki which was suprising although a digger was parked at the end of the beach so maybe they will get it sorted soon, so we spent our beach time at Kerasia which is so lovely anyway as is the taverna.

 

The weather last Sunday was unbelievable the main street was a river, but thankfully it cleared by Monday and every day got a little hotter. Did alot of driving around exploring for a change both inland and other resorts and really enjoyed it. Agree with Frilly the flowers are so beautiful and the smells too, we drove up to Portas one evening, what a view its like being on the top of the world.

 

Stayed at Katia Beach which was excellent, all the reports we have read were bang on, Alex and Joanna are such a lovely couple and deserve every success as they are always working hard but never too busy to stop and chat and always smiling.

 

Has some superb meals at Charcol Grill, Little Italy, Petrinos, Trilogia, The Three Brothers, Boleros and Tavernaki at Sinies.

 

Our last night in Illusions was mad, great party, lots of lovely people and the best hosts, only 17 weeks until we can do it all again

Dennis, sorry but the afternoon wind you mention is not the Maestro, this does come from the north or north west, but lasts for 3 days at least and indicates a change in the weather, good or bad.

Hi Sue, Strongilo is not a villa I am familiar with, however as you know the area you will understand that most of the villas above and below the road have pretty steep access roads. Who have you booked through? It might be worth questioning them if it is a concern for you.

We are staying in Villa Stongilo half way between San Steph and Kerasia in May and just wondered how steep the road up to the villa is. Would we be able to walk up it or is it to steep or to far. We have walked between the two places before so know that we can do that. Hope someone can help.

For me it is having got off the plane, driving up the north east coast past Kalami to the bend in the road after Kouloura, looking down over Kerasia and the bright turquoise sea to Albania. Breathtaking.

We always stay in Acharavi but Im not a fan of the beach as we love to snorkel, the sand at Acharavi makes visability awfull. Just by chance our Greek friend mentioned Kerasia beach so we gave it a go WELL what can I say, its one of our favourites now and almost comes close to Kaminaki for snorkelling!!
