Agni Bay Corfu

Back to Top of Agni Bay PageAgni Bay

Agni Bay is home to Taverna Agni - this website's creator. Agni means un-spoilt in Greek and this describes our bay perfectly. Situated on the North East Coast set amongst the olive groves growing either side of the bay. It is not a 'resort' as there are just three Tavernas (each with their own jetty for mooring up to) and a couple of local buildings. The bay is reached mainly by little rented motor boats. Yachts and large motor cruisers also frequent this little bay. The road down to the bay is very narrow and winding for those brave enough to drive down! This year the road has been resurfaced, making it easier. The drive is worth the effort though as the bay is beautiful, and crystal clear waters await. Across the water are beautiful views of the Albanian mountains with the town of Zara below and often in the evening stunning sunset refections can be seen.

Back to Top of Agni Bay PageWho is the Resort for

People who are looking for peace and tranquillity. Agni bay is a traditional Greek Bay and remains as it was years ago. Children and teenagers may find this bay a little quiet. Adults looking to get away from it all in a true traditional Greek bay would love it at Agni.

Back to Top of Agni Bay PageThe Beach

Type

Small Pebbles with sand patches.

Sunbeds:

All the Tavernas provide sunbeds free to their customers. If these are all taken there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas for hire from Spiros.

Child Suitability

The bay is very friendly and safe as it is away from roads. The water does tend to shelve quite deeply in parts. The far end of the beach would be a safer option for children swimming as there is a lot of water traffic moving around the jetties.

Accessability

If you are walking through the olive groves from the nearby resorts make sure you wear covered shoes as there are some rocks to climb across and undergrowth. The drive down to the bay is extremely steep but once there it is totally flat.

Cleanliness and Urchings

Although Agni bay is not a blue flag beach it is cleaned every day and there is no litter. On the main beach area there are no urchins but there are some on the rock at the edges. Be careful if swimming and walking on the rocky areas. Sea shoes (jellies) are available from the nearby supermarkets in Kalami.

Back to Top of Agni Bay PagePlaces of Interest

Agni itself is worth a visit being that it has virtually unchanged in the last 100 or so years unlike many of the other resorts on the island. Apart from the obvious increase in visitors. Nearby is the chapel of 'Prospero Cell' as mentioned by Laurence Durrell. Below the chapel is a small underwater cave - the kids love it. The next small bay to Agni is Yaliskari - which is completely undeveloped and has excellent swimming and rock jumping areas!

Back to Top of Agni Bay PagePlaces Nearby

Nearby Yaliscary 'deserted' bay is excellent for snorkeling:
Kalami is a 20 min walk and the Nissaki Beach Hotel a 25 min walk via coastal paths.

Back to Top of Agni Bay PageHow to get there by Car

Follow the main coastal road from Corfu town up to the North East of the island, As you near the North East watch out for the winding narrow roads, mirrors are conveniently placed on the worst bends. Pass through Ipsos, Barbati and Nissaki, as you pass the hotel Nissaki Beach on your right, there is a sharp bend bearing to your left, it is on this bend that you need to turn right to Agni, look out for the sign and the three Tavernas boards. Be careful as you drive down the steep and winding road as it is also very narrow in parts. Go slowly! There is a carpark at the bottom of the road.

Back to Top of Agni Bay PageTavernas at Agni Bay

There are three Tavernas spaced out along Agni bay. Ours of course is the Taverna Agni.

Taverna Agni

Taverna Agni is family run and serves an excellent choice of traditional Greek cuisine. Taverna Agni is located at the quiet and un-spoilt Agni Bay. Just come on in and check it out yourself: Taverna Agni

Back to Top of Agni Bay PageWhat's There

Agni is a bay rather than a resort. You can find all the amenities of a resort such as supermarkets, exchange, boat rental, water sports, telephone and swimming pools at the nearby Kalami. This is just a short walk away through Yaliscari bay and across the headland.
