Ag Gordios, Agios (Saint) Gordios, Corfu Resort Guide, Corfu Travel Guide
The resort of Agios Gordios is on the west coast of Corfu.

Depending on the taxi driver it can take from 20 minutes to 40 minutes to transfer from the airport.

As you climb the hills crossing from east to west, the olive groves are all around you.
Descending into Agios Gordios is a joy whether by day or night. At night the lights of the village are spread out below you. By day the panoramic view is breathtaking, looking across the bay to the landmark of 'Orthlithi' the rock guarding the cliffs.
Agios Gordios is a relatively small resort with a long sandy beach, and is a real find. There is plenty to do with an assortment of Tavernas and Restaurants scattered along the narrow high street, and along the beach.

One more addition for you to check out on the west coast. We all have our own favorite locations and love to promote them. The west coast has mainly sandy beaches but what they all share is fantastic sunsets.

At first I thought you were talking about Agios Georgios beach, which is achievable in a day, though a taxi back would be nice.

The route South you're talking about is over a dozen miles (as the crow flies) across a steep landscape.  There's something called the 'Corfu Trail' but you're expected to tackle it over several days.  Round from Paleo to Liapedes, you just follow the road out and follow the roadsigns.  It's about equivalent in effort to your trip up to the Angelokastro.  But it's far easier to swim across from the Acapulco bar on the edge of Paleo.  I think there's a route over the rocks there if you'd rather cut short the longer road route.

But Pelekas and Agios Gordios?  That's at least half an hour if not more by car.  On foot, getting on for 15-20 miles allowing for the winding routes and steep climbs.  It'd be a tough route for an overnight competitive hike.  By day, in the summer, it'd be suicidal.  But if you're looking for a way of thinning out applicants for the Marines or something, be my guest...

Seriously though, get a good map with terrain marked on it, do some more research, and try not to be too ambitious.

Where about's does the walk start from Paleo beach to Liapades and how long a walk please?
Also did read that you can walk from Liapades to Pelekas and even carry on to Agios Gordios.
Any info on this would be appreciated, is all this possible within a day. Did a lot of walking last year and looking forward to some more walks that I have not done.
Did the Paleo to Lakones and then up to Krini and on the road all the way up to the castle and back to Paleo.

Our first holiday to Greece was on Zante but we stayed around the next bay to Laganas... real sin bin!  We hated that place and then we did a Beach BBQ trip and at the end of the evening we were deposited in Kalamaki in a bar where the girls were dancing on the bar... not a good place for kids!  All in all we were disappointed as it was too lively, we just wandered around the gift shops until we got collected by the coach... bit of an eye opener for our first Greek holiday.  Now we prefer somewhere much quieter like Arillas or Agios Gordios or St. George North in Corfu.

Madmickey,

There are several places open Agios Gordios at the moment. I hope to get an update in the next couple of days from a local resident of the latest information. I am not sure if you know about the location "Black Rocks" but they have a special event on over the Greek Orthodox Easter weekend.

Hi Nige, long time no speak, and I hope you are well.
Got to agree with Dave and Kerry here. Have you ever been in their/my situation with major flight delays. ???

June 2008, I was in Agios Gordios, phone call from my twin brother (yes there is two of us) mother has broken her ankle. Make sure you get home on time to get her out of hospital. They won't release mum to me as I don't have a down stairs toilet/wash area.

This news did not make my holiday.Unhappy But with the help of friends (Gill B on this site. xx) I got on with it and looked forward to going home and getting my mum out of hospital. I NEVER look forward to going home.

Kiss kiss to Gill, Keith, Les, Jane and Matty and off to the airport and home to get my mother out of hospital. Wrong, good all Tommy Crook had another of their delays. This time, 10 hours.

Gill, Keith, Les, Jane and Matty found me four hours later outside departures, having a fag waiting for Tommy Cook to inform me when I could get home.

Yes, they finally told us we had a 10 hour delay and we would have a free meal and soft drinks.

Big deal, I only wanted to get home as fast as I could.

My mother had to stay another day in hospital due to Tommy Cook, as I did not get home until the following day.

Therefore, I will not let it go and move on.

I will move this claim forward because of the heartache/total confusion Tommy Cook caused me that day. I had no idea when I was going to get home. I asked them all the time for updates and explained my situation. Everybody wants to get home, but they were a joke.

Now, you know why I fly out of Luton with Easyjet Wink. Luton is miles away from bonnie Dundee in Scotland. I did give Tommy Cook from Glasgow another 3/4 tries after this experence but always had delays. Jet2 from Newcastle was very good and on time and the last couple of years with Easyjet from Luton. Can't fault Easyjet up to now, (Hope so, as we are flying with them again in 10 weeks time from Luton).

Why Luton. Can't trust Tommy Cook from Glasgow and I won't move on Smile

Think you should put more thought into your postsShocked

Kind Regards
Tom

Hi Dean,
There have been a few changes since you were last in Agios Gordios. Most of the people you remember from your last visit should be there this year. To the best of my knowledge the cash machine will still be there and as you were told on the A.G. forum back in 2008, George at the supermarket by the bus stop will change cash.
When you say you are staying at Dina's, is the one near the beach or Dina's Paradise Apartments.

I would head south and have lunch at Boukari before going onto Petriti for the evening (a diversion up to Chlomos for a drink in one of the most beautiful villages with stunning views might be a good idea. Stay 2 nights in Petriti and from there you can explore the fantastic beach of the south west coast and the wetlands area at Lefkimi.
Then leave Petriti and drive via Agios Mattheos to Agios Gordios, and Pelekas and on to Paleocastritsa.
I would only stay one night there, but visit the monastery in the evening.
Next day go north stopping to visit Angelocastro and then stay on Agios Georgios Pagi for a couple of nights so you can explore the north west (Afionas area).
I would then head across to the  north east, visit Perithia, and stay three nights in Kassiopi to explore Perithia and the Pantocrator villages, also hire a boat one day and go down the coast finding one of the beautiful little coves to have to yourselves!

What is the weather like in Agios Gordios in Mid May? We are thinking about booking a week, staying at Stevens on the Hill in the 2nd to 3rd week of May.

Just wondered anybody here has experience of the weather. Last year we stayed at Irene's during the first week of June and Yannis said the previous 2 weeks had rubbish weather...

Hi Chrissann,
I am so pleased that you had a memorable holiday in Agios Gordios, the view from Villa Mary is spectacular. I first visited the resort 20 years ago and stayed at Mazis and have been hooked ever since. I also have stayed 3 times at Villa Sophia, that was in the days when it was just a single storey. The garden was just as beautiful then and Sophia used to dry Figs on the roof for winter use. I know that a member of Sophia's family has started a Facebook page for the apartments.

If I were to go back I would stay at the Sea Breeze apartments, we ate here a few times this year (my first visit to Ag.G) and they are stunning apartments right on the beach, but nowhere near as far along the beach as the Aghios Gordios Hotel. You would still have to walk the boardwalk along the beach for a couple of hundred yards or so, but I am guessing there would be a way out at the back which would lead to the main street, without the hill climb involved in the Ag G hotel.
Have  a look at these, and hopefully someone knowledgeable will come along and say how easy or otherwise it is to use the road behind the Sea Breeze.

Its a bit of a walk down the road to get to the centre of AG or the other way is down a number of steps to the beach then along a wooden walkway so maybe not the best location if you are not too mobile, brilliant sunsets though.

We usually stay at the Angelica which is up a hill from the bus stop in the centre of the village so thats probably not too good either. Have look here at other options http://agios-gordios.net/

Yes there are 3 St Georges as you say Elliemay.  We stayed in Agios Gordios SW and I'd say it's also slightly SW of Corfu town.

You're all spot on about the bars- Robbin's Nest is run by Robin from Chicago.  We had many chats with her over cocktails. She's very welcoming and the bar has a hippy type feel to it.

Madison Garden played very current chilled music which we loved and their friendly service was second to none. On leaving during our last visit there, we were told that we'd brought the bar luck that night as it was empty until we walked in and then a steady stream piled in as though a bus had pulled up outside lol.

Agios Gordios is like the one in the middle so to speak. It lies  broadly South West of Corfu Town and is the subject of this particular Forum. Wink

Thanks for the replies about Robin's Nest. I thought the lady hailed from Chicago but because it's two years since I've been there and I think I may have had a couple of drinks before I left the premises my recall was somewhat hazy!!

ROGER RAYMOND you are probably right but I'm not travelling alone this time so my guess is that my Fiancée and I will try Madison's out as well. We do love a cocktail. Big smile

It sounds great at Agios Gordios, I too have never been south of Corfu Town as yet.
Just to confuse matters further Razaker, there are three St. Georges in Corfu, to my knowledge. Agios Georgios NW, Agios Gordios and Agios Georgios South.
It's no wonder everyone gets confused. Confused  Confused  Confused

Shirley that's a lovely report on your holiday in Agios Gordios and it's good to hear that Stevens is as great as ever. I'm there again next Month so thanks for your tips on eating and drinking places. Is Madison Garden the place run by an American lady and stays open as long as someone is drinking?

Have been to Agios Gordios in late September - early October for the last 5 years.  All tavernas, shops and bars should be open for you.  Can't compare the village with Kalami but we love it there.  Have only heard good of Stevens on the Hill.  Happy holiday.

I know Elizajay that you've not long spent a few pleasant days in in Agios Gordios and you must have been a few places on Corfu over the years.

I would think Barbati might meet the criteria you list or another thought would be Agios Stephanos (NW). That will supply all you need plus plenty of walking options and magnificent sunsets from either the beach or up the hill at The Romanza Hotel.

Happy choosing! Big smile

Going to Agios Gordios for first time 15th September, will all the tavernas shops bars etc still be open? We normally stay in Kalami so are we for a culture shock or would you say it is on par?
We are self catering at Stevens on the Hill so hopefully I have chosen well for accomodation?

When in Agios Gordios I always visit Pentati, it is an unspoilt village. Rather than stopping for a drink at Chris's Place, I tend to use Angelas in the village. It is a typical village cafe/bar and has a great view from it's roof garden. You are able to get snacks there although there is no menu. Thumbs Up  Clap

Just read on a Facebook Forum on one of the popular bars in Agios Gordios that the Municipality of Corfu are clamping down on music bars and putting a curfew of 11.30 p.m. on outside music and are even closing some bars down.  Cry

To me this would be a shame, I suppose it depends on just how loud the bars play their music.

Anyone got any info on this? Thanks

Hello Laska123. Apparently Alpha Taxis don't do transfers to Agios Gordios (see Stripey T-shirt's post of 12th July). I'm sure Weststekker's advice is sound as so many people do exactly as he says - especially to Agios Gordios.

Given that the journey to the resort is relatively short then I can't see a problem with catching a taxi outside the airport. Just agree the price with the driver before you get in.

I'm another fan of Avon Skin So Soft dry oil spray- it's always worked for me. Taking that and some mossie bands with me when I come to Agios Gordios 2 weeks today Big smile

I'll have to remember to put the bands on before leaving the plane. Thanks for the tips!

Hi,
Yes they are based in the north. It's very confusing as there are three villages in Corfu with similar names. Agios Georgiios NW, Agios Georgios South and Agios Gordios on the west coast. Only in Corfu! LOL

Have just returned from Agios Gordios and would like to let you know that the prices in all of the Tavernas/Restaurants were almost the same as two years ago. The strength of sterling against the euro has meant that that you need to spend as much as you can to keep the fabulous resorts going.

A large Mythos was only 3 euro, a decent wine about the same and a delicious three course meal was about 25 euro for two.

We budgeted for about 100euros per day but only spent about 60 euros on a boozy day!!

The best part about the holiday was the wall to wall sunshine day after day. Temperatures were in the late 80c and low 90c. A little warm but in the shade with a Mythos!!!

Hi Bob and Wendy,
The place between Agios Gordios and Sinarades that you were at with Heather is 'Golden Horizon'. Fabulous view of Agios Gordios from there.

Golden View is on the road between Agii Theodora and Kato Garouna, there is a view of Agios Gordios from there but it's futher away.

Sorry, this has probably been done to death but my search kind of failed miserably! I know there are wasps in September having been to Agios Gordios in the first week of September, but are wasps all over Corfu then? Please don't tell me they aren't a problem - I would have 5 or 6 of the little blighters on me at any one time!!! Really want a week or two in Corfu early September but can't stand the wasps! May have to be Majorca! (roll on San Stephanos in 3 weeks!)

A couple of years ago we set out from Kassiopi for a run down the west coast, without a map. Eventually we came across high in the hills a fantastic place called The Golden View taverna. (Not the Golden View hotel). Please can anyone confirm or not, that it is on the road from Sinarades to Agios Gordios.

Just hope Oscar is back this year. He made our holiday in Agios Gordios last year. It was great fun throwing sticks for him on the beach at 0630 every day. Have missed him so much.

I have been to many on Corfu and have not had a bad experience yet. Two that I always visit are --- Bouganvillia in Corfu Town and Stevens on the Hill in Agios Gordios.

Razaker, that is the same attitude that I've got and just carry on as usual, what will be will be. I've booked my 2013 holiday for Agios Gordios and I've had the doom mongers telling me all the bad things that will happen and how I will lose my money. If I listened to them, I would spend 2013 in the rain here in the UK just like I will be this year Smile. Enjoy your trip away, wish it was me this year!

Hi Doog,

We've stayed at the Angelica every year since 2006!  We've seen Agios Gordios get a little quieter each year but we still love it.  We aren't really sorted properly this year but hope to visit towards the end on September.

So what do you do when you go to an island  which has no ATM's

The only place on Alonissos  to change money etc  are the banks and I believe one travel agent. No ATM's anywhere.  I believe Halki is the same  I certainly do not fancy  taking large amounts of cash abroad.
I remember a few years ago the only ATM in Agios Gordios was out of action for a week. So had a meal in a local Taverna for 20 Euros and asked for cash back of 280 euros, simples!!
Sorry Nigel I am being thick, what did you pay with? plastic?  On some islands they do not accept cards in payments anywhere let alone give cash back

Hi Alehouse,

I do not have any photo's of the hill. Compared to hills in Agios Gordios and Paleokastritsa, I would say the hill has a slight incline. Wink

To explain - I've made two posts in the Kaminaki and Agios Gordios Forums neither of which are showing in the respective Forum on the Home page.  Some Forums appear to be unaffected.

My posts do show up in the "Latest Forum Posts" section on the Home page.

Thanks for having a look at this.
