Agios (Saint) Spiridon
Agios Spiridon has two beautiful bays overlooking the dramatic hills of Albania. As soon as you reach the bay at the bottom of the road the turquoise of the sea stuns you, this is truly a stunning bay with the flatness of the beach offset by the ruggedness of the rocks either side of the two beaches.
|
Who is the Resort for
Those wanting a quite relaxing holiday, with nearby walks to the local nature reserve - excellent for birdwatchers and botanists.
This is the resort as was seen during the 2002 season. In May 2003 a new all inclusive hotel 'The Blue Bay Escape' resort opened. This is an 800 bed hotel, so things in this peaceful bay have changed! It is now more of a family resort and the hotel has many facilities as would be expected from an all inclusive hotel. More>>

The Beach of Agios (Saint) Spiridon
Type
The main beaches here are sandy, although there is some rock sunbathing and swimming at the far end of the resort.
Sunbeds
Sunbeds and umbrellas are available to hire.
Facilities
There are showers, toilets and changing areas available.
Child Suitability
The main beach here is very child friendly the waters are shallow and the beach is sandy. There is though a small lane above the beach where the cars park.
Accessibility
Spiridon beach itself is flat although there is a little incline down to the first beach. To drive or walk down to the resort from the main road is fairly flat.
Cleanliness and Urchins
Although Agios Spiridon is a blue flag beach I was surprised to find the beach was littered with cigarette ends!!! There are no urchins on the main beaches but be careful at the far end near the rocks.

Places of Interest
Agios Spiridon is known in the North East of Corfu as a nature reserve. The reserve is just a short walk or drive along from the beaches. There are many butterflies and wild flowers and the fish swim up the canal and lay there eggs here. There is also a lagoon behind the resort - which does increase the number of mosquitoes in the area!
This perennial has thick, flat, ribbon-shaped leaves, 2 to 4 cm wide, often showing one or more twists in the blade. It flowers from July through September with large, fragrant, very showy white flowers; their beauty inspired the ancient wall paintings of the palaces at Knossos on Crete and Thera on Santorini. This plant is distributed throughout the sandy coastal areas of Greece, but since it is the object of indiscriminate picking it is unfortunately becoming somewhat rare. St Spiridon is one of the few remaining places.

Ag Spiridon seems to be the one to be moved to as an alternative - it is a quiet place with a nice beach, and Sidari is lively.. although if you've booked all inclusive I doubt that you care what resort you are in! View Topic:
If you go right to the point it's about 6 miles from Roda to St Spiridon its about 8 miles but there's always Georges taverna at Almiros for Lunch.
Hi Kernowman,
I didn't realise it was that far, however we have walked in different places 15 kms in a day, so we don't do too bad and I certainly am not fit, but I don't mind walking about in alot of heat. I use the car at home so never really really walk anywhere.
Regards,
Pegasus.

I was looking forward to visiting the Ammus Pool Bar in Saint Spiridon when we come in June, but according to another topic it is up for rent. Does anyone know what is happening and whether it is likely to be open this season? Thanks Julie
Thanks for all the tips, Ammus pool bar looks good and we hope to get up to Perithia too so will try Spiros. Has anyone tried Pyramid in Saint Spiridon? I just can't wait! Julie
When we were there in the summer the Pyramid still hadn't been built, although 'the Russian' who owns it and the beautiful house at the end of the bay (and also I think the Ammus too) was around so maybe there has been some building going on during the winter! We will be there at Easter, so will go and have a nose and report back!!

My first post.. although I am a long time fan of Corfu. My first encounter was 25 years ago (my first time abroad)... I was blown away, as I was 2 years ago when I returned with my familiy. A lot has changed but the magic is the same. Anyway... less of the rambling. We are coming again with a group of 3 other families staying at Thalia Villas nr St Spiridon in June. We are expecting to eat in a fair bit and I was wondering how supermarket prices for food and drink are looking at the moment and how they compare with eating out. I love eating out in Corfu but some of our budgets are on the tight side. Also does any one have any Supermarket recommendations in the area. We will have hire cars. Thank you in advance Julie

Hi Corfugirly, As previous replies confirm there are a lot of supermarket options in the area but also some cheap eating out options. My particular favourite and excellent value for money is Tzelatis (commonly referred to as Spiros) in Perithia, only a few minutes drive from the Thalia estate. Spiro and family are the friendliest of hosts and super generous - you always get complimentary dips and bread, bottled water and very often dessert! You will also nearly always get a free nightcap. And more importantly great company interesting locals. There are also a number of places to eat and get a drink at the beach in Aghios Spyridon itself - most notably the Ammos pool bar - once again with the friendliest of families in charge. Whatever you will have a fabulous time - we will be in Perithia for the half term week in June so may well see you in Spiros!!! View Topic:

The nearest large supermarkets are in Acharavi, local mini markets in St Spiridon and Perithia, Imported brands more expensive than local produce. Look out for small trucks selling fresh fish or fruit and vegetables. Bob
