Agios (Saint) Spiridon, Agios (Saint) Spiridon, Corfu Resort Guide, Corfu Travel Guide
Agios Spiridon has two beautiful bays overlooking the dramatic hills of Albania. As soon as you reach the bay at the bottom of the road the turquoise of the sea stuns you, this is truly a stunning bay with the flatness of the beach offset by the ruggedness of the rocks either side of the two beaches.

Back to Top of Page Who is the Resort for

Who is the Resort for, Agios (Saint) Spiridon, Corfu Resort Guide, Corfu Travel Guide
Those wanting a quite relaxing holiday, with nearby walks to the local nature reserve - excellent for birdwatchers and botanists.

This is the resort as was seen during the 2002 season. In May 2003 a new all inclusive hotel 'The Blue Bay Escape' resort opened. This is an 800 bed hotel, so things in this peaceful bay have changed! It is now more of a family resort and the hotel has many facilities as would be expected from an all inclusive hotel. More>>

Accessibility
Spiridon beach itself is flat although there is a little incline down to the first beach. To drive or walk down to the resort from the main road is fairly flat.
Cleanliness and Urchins
Although Agios Spiridon is a blue flag beach I was surprised to find the beach was littered with cigarette ends!!! There are no urchins on the main beaches but be careful at the far end near the rocks.

Places of Interest, Agios (Saint) Spiridon, Corfu Resort Guide, Corfu Travel Guide
Agios Spiridon is known in the North East of Corfu as a nature reserve. The reserve is just a short walk or drive along from the beaches. There are many butterflies and wild flowers and the fish swim up the canal and lay there eggs here. There is also a lagoon behind the resort - which does increase the number of mosquitoes in the area!

Places of Interest, Agios (Saint) Spiridon, Corfu Resort Guide, Corfu Travel Guide
This perennial has thick, flat, ribbon-shaped leaves, 2 to 4 cm wide, often showing one or more twists in the blade. It flowers from July through September with large, fragrant, very showy white flowers; their beauty inspired the ancient wall paintings of the palaces at Knossos on Crete and Thera on Santorini. This plant is distributed throughout the sandy coastal areas of Greece, but since it is the object of indiscriminate picking it is unfortunately becoming somewhat rare. St Spiridon is one of the few remaining places.

Hay sorry for the very late reply, I totaly forgot to post my sightings. First of all I really enjoyed my weeks trip to Sidari
I arrived at my apartment and was really glad it was outside the noise of Sidari
I hired a quad for the week and it was brilliant, anyway first morning I was greeted to enormous cricket in my room, a green one, I was at first scared as was my mum lol but when I tried to usher it out it didnt move so I got the brush and shoved it on to the balcony. I saw so many of them I am not ok with them I even had one on my hand in the end
Birds ... I saw a cirl  bunting in the trees near my apartment heard a scopes owl 3 nights running near my apartment, sparrows by the hundreads, magpies, 3 jays in Corfu town, alpine swifts, red rumped swallows in a few areas, a little owl on a post near Roda. On a drive up into the hills following the road out of Sidari that takes you to Corfu town there is another road to the east coast on a really quiet strech a massive bird of prey flew across the road out of dense woodland into more woodland, not identified but it was dark in colour and about buzard size. On that same trip out I was riding along when I saw a bird in the woods, I stopped quick I only had flip flops on so didnt want to go too far into it, I got a very blurred photo of a wood chat shrike wooo hooo my first
I also went to that Lake Spiridon, I didnt see too much it was the hot hot day but I did see two terripins, lots of fish and two turtle doves. Got nice photos and had a lovely chat to an American man also birdwatching there
I saw gold finches there too
I  miss Corfu so much I am going last week of June for 2 weeks, this time and bringing my boyfriend, mum, dad and neice .... anybody have any idea if the south has birdlife like the north?

If the Kassiopi bus turns round there, it does'n t go past Kalamaki, another alternative, but further away is San Spiridon. I'm sorry, I have no knowledge of bus services.

Both places boast shallow water well out from the beach, with very safe bathing.
Have a great time in Kalami, you wont have time for sand castles.
Bob.

Hi Alankeith,
There are acutally two ways to walk from Acharavi to Agios Spiridon from the end of the beach. To the right following the pretty well cared way through the woods or to the left over the rocks along the coastline. The small coast way heads over rocks and stones and is marked with some sort of red sand. It is a beautyfull walk, taking about 45-60 minutes depending on your speed and how often you stop for photos.

Cheers from Germany

Yes, when you get to the end of Almyros Beach cross the little footbridge and follow the track all the way round to San Spiridon, no problem.

My personal choice now is not to stay AI in Corfu, but we have done in the past. 2004 we stayed at the former Blue Bay Escape in St Spiridon and I honestly could not fault it (OK the waiters were a bit keen to clear the tables but that is all!)  The accommodation was modern and spacious; the food WAS very good, offering a selection of food including Greek specialities.
I have said many times before that if you are on a budget and have younger children then it is a good choice.  However, if you do stay AI then PLEASE get out and about a bit and experience what the island has to offer.

Gary,

There is one at St. Spiridon between Kassiopi and Acharavi called MareBlue. (Google it for further info.) friends of ours stayed there last year and loved it. It used to be called Blue Bay Escape years ago when it first opened and they ran a courtesy bus into Kassiopi a couple of times a day I don't know if they still do it.

St. Spiridon is very quiet but a lovely place with a white sandy beach.. You can walk through an olive grove up a hill to the main road where you can catch the bus either to Kassiopi or going the other way to Roda, Acharavi and Sidari. It runs four times a day in each direction but finishes around 5 pm. No night time service. I think our friends paid €15 each way in a taxi to Kassiopi.

Alec.

Hi there, you could try St. Spiridon. There are wetlands and a nature reserve, could be good but you need a car as it is about 25 minutes from Sidari.
Have a great time!

We have stayed twice at Spiti Prifti, between Gouvia and Kontokali.
I remember Gouvia being quite lively at night, particularly over the weekends.
The attraction for us is the proximity to Corfu Town, via the blue bus which runs until late evening so you can go there for an evening meal if you need a change of scene.
May I suggest Kokkoras taverna behind St Spiridon church - lovely for a romantic evening meal in my opinion.
Also the green buses to Paleo and to Ipsos/Barbati/Kassiopi run through Gouvia, so you can revisit some of your old haunts without hiring a car.
Have a great time!

Unless things have turned around, To Fagapotion, at Almyros (between Acharavi and San Spiridon/Perithia all part of Thinalion) closed down last autumn, they have relocated to San Stephanos NE, however when we were passing the location early in May there was signs of life, so it will be interesting to see what has changed.

Hi everyone,

I have just fallen in love with a small estate in St Spiridon, and what I would really like is to get married there, either on the estate, or nearby beach/taverna.

There are companies online that offer to arrange your wedding for you, but the prices they charge are shocking!

Has anyone been to a wedding on Corfu? Had their own on Corfu? Or can give me any information or advice??

I am looking at late 2013. Maybe as late as October, will it rain all the time?

Many thanks in advance.

xx

Has anyone had any experiences/meals at the Pyramid Taverna at Agios Spiridon? Seriously considering trying it and the menu looks just that bit different.

Ag Spiridon seems to be the one to be moved to as an alternative -  it is a quiet place with a nice beach, and Sidari is lively.. although if you've booked all inclusive I doubt that you care what resort you are in!

Hi Kernowman,

I didn't realise it was that far, however we have walked in different places 15 kms in a day, so we don't do too bad and I certainly am not fit, but I don't mind walking about in alot of heat.  I use the car at home so never really really walk anywhere.

I was looking forward to visiting the Ammus Pool Bar in Saint Spiridon when we come in June, but according to another topic it is up for rent.

Does anyone know what is happening and whether it is likely to be open this season?

Thanks

When we were there in the summer the Pyramid still hadn't been built, although 'the Russian' who owns it and the beautiful house at the end of the bay (and also I think the Ammus too) was around so maybe there has been some building going on during the winter! We will be there at Easter, so will go and have a nose and report back!!
My first post.. although I am a long time fan of Corfu. My first encounter was 25 years ago (my first time abroad)... I was blown away, as I was 2 years ago when I returned with my familiy. A lot has changed but the magic is the same.

Anyway... less of the rambling. We are coming again with a group of 3 other families staying at Thalia Villas nr St Spiridon in June. We are expecting to eat in a fair bit and I was wondering how supermarket prices for food and drink are looking at the moment and how they compare with eating out. I love eating out in Corfu but some of our budgets are on the tight side.

Also does any one have any Supermarket recommendations in the area. We will have hire cars.

Thank you in advance

JulieSmile
Hi Corfugirly,
As previous replies confirm there are a lot of supermarket options in the area but also some cheap eating out options. My particular favourite and excellent value for money is Tzelatis (commonly referred to as Spiros) in Perithia, only a few minutes drive from the Thalia estate. Spiro and family are the friendliest of hosts and super generous - you always get complimentary dips and bread, bottled water and very often dessert! You will also nearly always get a free nightcap. And more importantly great company interesting locals. There are also a number of places to eat and get a drink at the beach in Aghios Spyridon itself - most notably the Ammos pool bar - once again with the friendliest of families in charge. Whatever you will have a fabulous time - we will be in Perithia for the half term week in June so may well see you in Spiros!!!

The nearest large supermarkets are in Acharavi, local mini markets in St Spiridon and Perithia,
Imported brands more expensive than local produce.
Look out for small trucks selling fresh fish or fruit and vegetables.
